LIV Golf announced its LIV Golf Promotions event will be held at Florida’s Black Diamond Resort from January 8 to 11, where the top two finishers will earn LIV membership for 2026. This choice likely aimed to attract PGA Tour players by being held in the United States.
However, the PGA Tour has confirmed it will not grant releases or media rights to any of its members who compete in this LIV event. A PGA Tour spokesperson explained that since the LIV event is played in North America, it is classified as an unauthorized event under PGA Tour regulations, putting any participating member at risk of disciplinary action.
Furthermore, non-PGA Tour members who participate in the LIV Golf Promotions event face a one-year ban from PGA Tour-sanctioned events, including Monday qualifiers and sponsor exemptions, due to the event’s unauthorized status.
"Because the LIV event is being played in North America, under PGA Tour regulations it is defined as an unauthorized event. As such, any tour member who competes in it is subject to disciplinary action."
This announcement follows LIV Golf’s recent reveal of its plans for the third edition of the Promotions event.
Summary: The PGA Tour strictly prohibits members from participating in LIV Golf’s Florida event, enforcing sanctions to uphold its competitive boundaries and maintain its authority.
