Jennifer Lawrence recently revealed how her challenging postpartum experience after the birth of her second child influenced her approach to her latest movie, Die My Love. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the New York City premiere, the 35-year-old actress discussed how this personal struggle helped her connect deeply with her role.
In Die My Love, Lawrence plays a new mother grappling with the struggles of motherhood. She explained that her difficult postpartum anxiety after her second baby added emotional depth to her portrayal.
“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby]. I think that just added another layer,” Lawrence said. “I mean, I don't think that you have to have kids to play a parent by any means, but having that information about, you know, what a tiny person needs, and is looking for. Just having that information was helpful.”
“I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead,” she told The New Yorker about her anxiety.
Jennifer Lawrence’s honest reflection on postpartum anxiety enriches her latest role, showing how personal struggles can deeply inform an actor’s performance.
