San Antonio, Texas — Methodist Children’s Hospital turned into a cheerful Halloween wonderland as San Antonio Spurs forward Julian Champagnie swapped his jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume. His visit delighted patients and staff alike, filling the halls with smiles, laughter, and plenty of candy.
Each Halloween, the hospital becomes a lively celebration where units pick creative themes, decorate their areas, and staff appear in matching costumes. One of the most beloved traditions is reverse trick-or-treating: instead of children going door-to-door, hospital leaders visit each room to hand out treats and brighten spirits.
This year’s event was even more special as Champagnie teamed up with the Spurs’ mascot, Coyote. Together they distributed candy, posed for photos, and chatted with young patients about basketball, costumes, and anything that could lift their mood.
The visit was part of the Spurs’ broader community outreach, designed to build genuine connections and spread encouragement beyond the court.
“I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see my actual walking dream.” — Jamal Magee, patient at Methodist Children’s Hospital
