AFLW: Biddell reflects on road to 75 games as Crows eye finals success

AFLW: Chelsea Biddell Reflects on 75 Games as Crows Aim for Finals

Adelaide defender Chelsea Biddell will reach a milestone of 75 AFLW games this Sunday in the Crows’ elimination final against St Kilda. At 27, Biddell has developed strong leadership skills, a quality she says did not come naturally at first.

Leadership Growth

Biddell was voted into the Crows’ leadership group for the first time at the start of the season, reflecting years of steady development and dedication.

"That was pretty special to be announced as part of the leadership group this year, especially to be voted in by your peers, it’s very nice," Biddell said.

She explained her ongoing effort to improve leadership, especially as she gained experience within the team.

"(Leadership) has been something I’ve been working on over the years, when I started to get games consistently, it was then being able to bring others along with me. I had to work really hard on that part of my game, especially when I started to become one of the more experienced players."

Biddell admits communication on the field was challenging because she isn’t naturally loud, so developing her voice was key.

"In terms of on the field, I’m not really the loudest person, so I think it was just (developing) that voice and communication that I really had to build on."

Journey to 75 Games

Although Biddell is now a key figure in the Crows’ defense, her path to 75 games involved challenges. Initially drafted as a forward in 2019, she struggled to secure a permanent spot.

Her role changed in 2022 when she moved from the forward line to defense, leading to greater consistency and impact.

Summary

Chelsea Biddell’s achievement of 75 AFLW games reflects her growth from a quiet player into a respected defensive leader, highlighting her persistence and adaptability on the field.
