Girl, Bye! Megyn Kelly Weighs In On Michelle Obama's Hair—And No One Asked Her To

Megyn Kelly again found herself commenting on issues within the Black community, calling former First Lady Michelle Obama’s reflections on her natural hair “nonsense.” On a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly criticized Obama’s remarks about her experience with hair expectations during her time in the White House.

While promoting her book The Look, Michelle Obama described the social pressure she felt to straighten her hair to meet public standards.

“As women of color, the way our hair naturally grows out of our heads is beautiful, but if we struggle to make it look like the standard, that means we are spending thousands of hours and lots of money straightening out what is naturally curly hair,” Obama said. “And that takes time out of your life. It costs money.”

Kelly dismissed Obama’s reflection as exaggerated, claiming that hair struggles are a universal experience rather than a racial one.

“Black women can walk around with whatever hair they want. Virtually every woman I know spends a ton of time on her hair and wants it to look better than God made it. It’s a human thing, and it’s especially a woman thing,” Kelly stated on air.

To many Black women and those familiar with cultural nuance, Obama’s point about societal pressure and representation was apparent, while Kelly’s remarks were seen as dismissing that context entirely.
