Sony embraces cloud gaming on PlayStation Portal, but requires $18/month subscription

Sony Expands Cloud Gaming on PlayStation Portal

Sony is deepening its commitment to cloud gaming by enabling it on the PlayStation Portal handheld device. Unlike standalone devices like the Steam Deck, the PlayStation Portal depends on streaming games from a PlayStation 5 console. Until now, the Portal required a direct Remote Play connection to the PS5.

New Cloud Gaming Features

From today, all PlayStation Portal users can access cloud gaming, allowing them to play select digital PS5 games from their own library without connecting to a console. Additionally, a catalog of PlayStation games is available via cloud streaming through PlayStation Plus.

Interface and Usability Enhancements

"Starting today, all PlayStation Portal owners will be able to use cloud gaming on the handheld."

The PlayStation Portal is an Android-based device designed specifically to stream games from a PS5 or through Sony's cloud services, extending the console's reach without adding native hardware capabilities.
