Erika Kirk, widow of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, stated she does not want an apology from late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, whose controversial comments about her husband’s assassination led to his removal from the air.
According to Kirk, Sinclair Broadcast Group, which operates many ABC-affiliated stations, reached out and asked if she would like to appear on Kimmel’s show to receive an on-air apology.
“I told them thank you, we received their note. It’s not our mess,” she told Fox News’ Jesse Watters. “If you want to say I’m sorry to someone who’s grieving, go right ahead. But if that’s not in your heart, then don’t do it.”
Kimmel had suggested that Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, was connected to the “MAGA gang” during his September monologue.
“We hit new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to portray this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, doing everything they can to score political points,” Kimmel said.
In response, Sinclair and Nexstar Media, the two largest ABC station owners in the U.S., announced the removal of Kimmel’s show from their schedules and successfully urged Disney to suspend the comedian.
Erika Kirk’s refusal of Jimmy Kimmel’s proposed apology underscores her call for sincerity over public gestures amid media consequences for the comedian’s remarks.
