Trump says Walmart Thanksgiving deal shows prices are lower, ‘ignores’ key detail

Trump Comments on Walmart Thanksgiving Deal

President Donald Trump recently highlighted Walmart’s Thanksgiving meal bundle as proof of lower grocery prices. However, this claim overlooks an important detail.

Price Reduction and Item Count

Walmart has reduced the price of its Thanksgiving bundle by 25% in 2025 compared to last year, according to ABC News. The package costs under $40, NBC News reports.

Yet, this year’s bundle contains fewer items than before. It includes 15 items compared to 21 in 2024. Counting each separate item, there are 22 this year versus 29 last year, CNN notes.

Changes in Bundle Composition

The 2025 bundle includes more products from Walmart’s store brand, Great Value. Several items present last year are missing this year, such as onions, celery, sweet potatoes, chicken broth, poultry seasoning, muffin mix, marshmallows, whipped topping, and pecan pie, according to NBC News.

“Grocery prices are way down, and Walmart just announced that the cost of their standard Thanksgiving meal — this is the greatest, their greatest. It is 25% lower than one year ago. That’s a big deal.” — President Donald Trump, American Business Forum

Summary

While Walmart's Thanksgiving meal bundle is cheaper this year, the lower price reflects fewer included items rather than an across-the-board drop in grocery costs.
