Generations Unite for Remembrance Day at Waters Edge Care Home

Residents of Waters Edge Care Home in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, joined pupils from Landywood Primary School to honour Remembrance Day together. The care home, which specialises in supporting adults aged 65 and above, offers a variety of engaging events throughout the year, with Remembrance Day standing out as one of the most meaningful.

Community Participation and Activities

In the run-up to the day, Landywood pupils aged 2 to 11 crafted handmade poppies while learning about Remembrance Day's significance and its history. These poppies were then gifted to the residents to help decorate the care home.

Educational Impact and Shared Memories

"Remembrance Day is an important event in our school calendar and we do lots of activities to support children's understanding of the history behind this significant day. Visiting Waters Edge Care Home and engaging with the older generation offers our children a unique learning experience. The memories shared by residents of their experiences of war are very powerful and reinforce the importance of Remembrance Day for the UK. We feel very fortunate to live in such a supportive community and thank the residents of Waters Edge for giving our pupils the opportunity to spend quality time with them." – Andrew Clewer, Headteacher
