Church of Jesus Christ Names Bishop Gérald Caussé as New Apostle

Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé was announced on Thursday as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Background and Calling

Now Elder Caussé, 62, has served as the church's presiding bishop for the past 11 years. He was called and ordained to the apostleship the same day by President Dallin H. Oaks along with the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

"I've always had a testimony of Jesus Christ," Elder Caussé said. "He's always been in the center of my life. And I know he's our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That's the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives."

Elder Caussé is originally from Bordeaux, France.
He is the third presiding bishop born outside the United States and the first whose first language is not English.
He previously served as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric and as a General Authority Seventy.
He married Valérie Babin on August 5, 1986, in the Bern Switzerland Temple.
His church service has taken him and his family to live in Germany and the United States.
