A recent survey reveals that over half of Americans cherish family recipes passed down through generations for their Thanksgiving celebrations. These traditional dishes evoke strong feelings of nostalgia and cultural pride.
The survey, commissioned by Jennie-O and conducted by Talker Research, also explored unique recipes representing different cultural backgrounds. Some recipes remain family secrets, such as one featuring potatoes “stuffed with ingredients only the elders of the family have access to,” according to a participant.
Other examples include a fried broccoli dish made from an Italian great-grandmother’s recipe and a Hawaiian smoked turkey prepared traditionally in an imu.
For respondents preparing a family recipe this holiday season, over half (58%) expressed appreciation for the nostalgia these dishes bring, while 53% enjoyed sharing the recipes with others.
The results emphasize how these recipes strengthen family bonds and connect generations through food during Thanksgiving.
Author's summary: Family recipes cherished across cultures continue to bring nostalgia and togetherness to Thanksgiving, preserving culinary heritage nationwide.
