Actor Ethan Hawke and director Richard Linklater have teamed up once again for their ninth film together, Blue Moon. Following its release, fans are wondering whether the pair might reunite for another project.
Recently, Hawke starred in Black Phone 2, which opened strongly at the box office, earning $26.5 million during its first weekend. Known for his enthusiasm toward genre films, Hawke expressed his desire to continue that story arc.
“I would like to go to hell with the Grabber. That would be my dream for the third one, to let it be a character piece about what made him, who he is now, and how he’s haunting other people’s dreams.”
Despite his ongoing success, Hawke doesn’t foresee another installment in the Before series with Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater. In an interview with Variety, he reflected on the trilogy’s completeness, especially since it has been over a decade since Before Midnight was released.
“The answer I usually give is that the three films feel complete. The first one begins with us on a train listening to a couple in their mid-40s fighting, and in the third one, we’ve become that couple. The circle feels complete.”
Still, Hawke admitted he might be open to working with Delpy and Linklater in a different context someday.
“If we were to do another, it might not be a Before film. It could be something new — maybe the After series. But part of what made those movies special is that Julie, Rick, and I were always in sync about what we wanted to say. That could happen again one day — it might start with one phone call or an email.”
Ethan Hawke cherishes his collaborations with Richard Linklater and Julie Delpy but views the Before trilogy as complete. Still, he leaves the door open for future creative reunions.
