Following the release of her album Lux, Spanish pop star Rosalía shared her experience of meeting her musical hero, Patti Smith, describing the encounter as “beautiful.” The meeting took place at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York, a memorable moment for Rosalía.
Rosalía's new album features a unique inclusion: the track “La Yagular” contains a recording of Patti Smith from 1976. In the recording, Smith says in an interview,
“Break on through to the other side. Going through one door isn’t enough, a million doors aren’t enough.”
During an interview on BBC 6 Music, Rosalía explained the role of Lee Foster, the manager of Electric Lady Studios, in arranging their meeting. She told host Nick Grimshaw,
“So we met because he wanted us to meet.”
Recalling that day, Rosalía described her anticipation and admiration:
“I remember walking down the stairs. I was wearing this white dress. I was kind of running, like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to make Patti Smith wait!’”
She continued,
“When I arrived, she had so much light in her face, her eyes, her smile. I couldn’t believe it. She noticed my dress and said, ‘I love your dress.’ We talked about the song, shared our thoughts, and it was one of the most beautiful experiences ever because I truly admire her.”
Rosalía’s heartfelt meeting with Patti Smith highlights her deep admiration and the special connection forged through music and shared moments.
