Jennifer Lawrence has confirmed that What Happens At Night, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is planned to start filming in 2026. The project marks the 27th feature film in Scorsese’s career.
The story follows an American couple who travel to a snow-covered European city to adopt a child, only to be caught in a sequence of mysterious and unsettling events. The film is based on Peter Cameron’s 2020 novel of the same name.
“They encounter characters ranging from an ancient, flamboyant chanteuse to a debauched businessman to an enigmatic faith healer,”
The book description continues,
“Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves, and life itself.”
Aside from the confirmed casting of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, no additional names have been revealed. Lawrence recently spoke to IndieWire about the production timeline.
“Hopefully, a January/February situation. But one never knows with these things. I’ll believe it when I’m there. Leo and I worked together on Don’t Look Up.”
Lawrence revealed that Scorsese’s next film, based on Peter Cameron’s novel, will unite her with DiCaprio again, aiming to begin shooting in early 2026.
