A retired STARS air ambulance helicopter has found a permanent home at The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary. This Airbus BK117 aircraft, introduced in 1985, was part of the original fleet that helped start the non-profit air ambulance service.
The helicopter served on missions across Western Canada before being retired from active duty. STARS highlighted the significance of the aircraft during its 40th anniversary:
“Now, in our 40th year, this historic aircraft stands as a symbol of the remarkable contributions made by the community, for the community.”
More than 100 donors contributed to a fundraising campaign that raised over $900,000 for STARS operations. Their names are proudly displayed on the helicopter.
The Hangar Flight Museum expressed its honor in a separate Facebook post, calling the helicopter “an inspiring legacy” that will preserve the story of STARS for future generations.
