Cochrane Could Host 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary Triathlon
If the town council approves, Cochrane may become the new location for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary triathlon. The event organizers, Platinum Racing Events, proposed relocating the race after construction made Harmony Park unavailable.
Event Details and Schedule
- The two-day triathlon is planned for July 25–26, 2026, with setup starting on July 24.
- Participants will swim 1.9 kilometres at Ghost Lake, cycle 90 kilometres on rural roads north of Cochrane, and run 21.1 kilometres along the town’s pathways and river corridor.
- A relay option for teams of two or three is also offered.
- Additional activities include a Kids Fun Run, vendor booths, and athlete package pickup on July 24–25, leading up to the main race on July 26.
- The Historic Cochrane Ranche is proposed to serve as the event headquarters.
Participation and Impact
Now in its 17th year, the event typically attracts about 1,100 athletes from up to 26 countries, alongside over 500 spectators and 300 volunteers. Approximately 40% of competitors travel more than 300 kilometres to race.
Last year’s event drew athletes from 16 countries.
This relocation could expand the event's presence and bring increased activity to Cochrane.
