Alberta Health Services (AHS) has removed the blue-green algae advisory for Eagle Lake, located southeast of Strathmore, starting Wednesday. Cooler temperatures have dropped the lake's temperature enough to lower the health risks associated with cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae.
This notice was issued for the lake in Wheatland County, about 45 minutes east of Calgary, advising residents to avoid contact with the algae. Officials warned against using untreated lake water for drinking or cooking purposes.
AHS emphasized that boiling water does not eliminate the toxins produced by the algae. They recommend using alternative water sources for people, pets, and livestock whenever blue-green algae is present in the water.
"Boiling does not remove the toxins and urged people to use alternate water sources for themselves, pets and livestock whenever algae may be present."
