Somerset Council is reminding eligible residents to receive their flu vaccination if they have not done so already. The optimal time for getting a flu jab is during autumn or early winter, before flu becomes widespread. This year, flu cases are already appearing.
Flu is much more severe than a common cold. It can significantly raise the risk of serious lung and airway infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, or worsen existing health conditions.
“Protecting yourself means protecting others. With flu already circulating, now is the perfect time for those who are eligible. It’s quick, safe and helps stop the spread to those most at risk.”
Flu spreads easily and can sometimes result in hospitalisation or even death. Since the flu virus continually changes, annual vaccination is essential.
The NHS usually informs eligible individuals when they can schedule their flu jab appointment. If residents have not been contacted but believe they qualify, they should consult their GP practice.
Somerset Council encourages timely flu vaccination to protect individual and public health during the flu season.
