Reports indicate that Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf has temporarily stepped away from the Toronto Marlies as he considers his future with the organization.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed on the Saturday Headlines and later on the 32 Thoughts podcast that Kampf is growing frustrated with not being included in the NHL roster.
“I don’t know exactly what was said…but Kampf did leave players with the Marlies [Leafs’ AHL affiliate] with the impression that he was going to terminate his contract.”
Friedman also mentioned that Kampf has taken some time away from the team, which might lead to a contract termination agreement between him and the Maple Leafs.
“The Toronto Marlies are playing tonight in Chicago in the American Hockey League, and he’s not with them. I was told there’s a possibility he could play tomorrow, but I think that’s unlikely.”
He added that Kampf is currently in a difficult situation due to roster limits and salary cap restrictions, which has contributed to his frustration and decision to take time to reflect.
