Edie Falco expressed interest in portraying a female superhero, describing it as an exciting new challenge. Renowned for her Emmy-winning performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, Falco thrives on playing complex, layered characters and has never found a role beyond her capabilities.
“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
She actively seeks out roles with depth, finding less complicated characters less engaging. Falco, now 62, feels fortunate to have portrayed a diverse range of complex women throughout her career.
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
Falco also notes that avoiding early typecasting has been beneficial. She reflected, “I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”
Looking ahead, she is intrigued by the possibility of playing a political figure, joking, “Maybe I can get something out of my system.”
