Actress Caitlin FitzGerald spoke to David Hennessy about her role in Othello on the West End and the play’s exploration of race, jealousy, toxic masculinity, misogyny, and domestic violence.

Caitlin FitzGerald’s Career

Caitlin FitzGerald’s screen work includes the award-winning series Succession, the period drama Masters of Sex, and Sweetbitter, adapted from Stephanie Danler’s bestselling novel. She also appeared in Netflix’s courtroom drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 and the recent Amazon Prime hit We Were Liars.

Othello on the West End

Currently, FitzGerald stars in Shakespeare’s Othello at Theatre Royal Haymarket. She plays Desdemona, the new wife of the Moorish general portrayed by David Harewood. Toby Jones takes on the role of Iago, who deceives Othello into believing Desdemona is unfaithful, sparking a tragic chain of events.

Tony Award winner Tom Morris directs the production, which also features Vinette Robinson and Luke Treadaway, with music by PJ Harvey.
