At a Friday afternoon news conference in Philadelphia, Governor Josh Shapiro strongly condemned Vice President JD Vance, accusing him of disregarding the needs of Americans.
“As for JD Vance, I got to say … America has a president, vice president that don't give a damn about all Americans. They have made that crystal clear.”
Shapiro expressed frustration after a reporter referenced Vance's description of a court order to release SNAP funds as “absurd.” The governor labeled Vance as insincere and criticized his rise to fame.
"JD Vance is a total phony."
Shapiro explained that Vance gained prominence by writing about poor people in Appalachia, profiting from their stories, but ultimately abandoning them.
“He turned his damn back on those very people.”
The governor also challenged Vance's claims of religious faith, contrasting them with the Biblical teachings on love and feeding the hungry.
“He claims to be a person of faith. And my Bible teaches us that we are to love thy neighbor and we are to feed the hungry.”
Shapiro called on people to recognize that some leaders deliberately keep people hungry. His strong emotions stem from witnessing hunger among Pennsylvanians he blames on Vance’s policies, motivating him to take legal action.
"Folks got to wake up and realize that people who are leading in America, quite literally want to keep people hungry. And you'll excuse me for getting emotional about it, but when I see hungry people in my state, who are hungry because of JD Vance's bull---- politics, that makes me angry. And that's why I went to court."
