After his final sign-off in September, Ari Shapiro, former host of NPR’s All Things Considered, has shifted his focus to a busy schedule of live performances. He will present his new cabaret show, “Thank You For Listening”, in Modesto this Sunday at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
For ten years, listeners recognized Shapiro’s voice as he ended NPR’s flagship program with the phrase:
Thank you for listening.
This signature sign-off marked the close of All Things Considered broadcasts for many fans.
Shapiro concluded his 10-year tenure on the show and a 25-year career with NPR at the end of September. Since then, he has embraced the stage once again, continuing his passion for performance.
Known also for performing with the band Pink Martini, Shapiro now focuses on his solo cabaret show titled “Thank You For Listening.” The Central Valley stop on his tour brings the show to Modesto’s Gallo Center this Sunday, November 10.
In a conversation with Insight Host Vicki Gonzalez, Shapiro discussed the inspiration behind his new show, his love for performing, and his experiences after leaving NPR. The interview has been edited for clarity and length.
