A strong supply chain is essential for the effective functioning of any health system. However, across Africa, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, disjointed logistics, and scarce real-time data often cause delays in delivering crucial health products. These products include vaccines, diagnostics, medicines, nutrition supplies, and emergency kits.
To address these challenges, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and UNICEF have partnered under an expanded Joint Action Plan (2024–2027) to reinforce health supply chains continent-wide. This collaboration seeks to enhance Africa’s ability to respond to public health emergencies and guarantee more dependable access to vital health services and products for everyone.
A key element of this partnership is the launch of a new dashboard designed to map Africa’s health supply chain comprehensively. This dashboard aims to increase transparency and coordination across the continent’s supply networks.
“Strong supply chains save lives. When health products move efficiently, health systems thrive,” said Africa CDC Director-General, Dr Jean Kaseya, expressing support for the collaboration.
This flagship initiative, called the Continental Supply Chain Snapshot, is poised to become a central tool in monitoring and improving the health supply chains across Africa.
