The Dolby Theatre hosted the taping of “Wicked: One Wonderful Night” on September 24, featuring a packed audience of devoted “Wicked” fans. While the broadcast included many memorable moments, several behind-the-scenes highlights did not make it to air.
Despite the famous warning to ignore the man behind the curtain, the audience got an insider’s look at the production process. Prior to filming, attendees were invited to participate actively in the show’s choreography.
Before filming began, audience members in the orchestra section received faux tulips and learned the flower choreography from the opening number, “No One Mourns the Wicked.” They practiced tossing the tulips into the air in time with Ariana Grande's entrance as Glinda the Good, rehearsing for several minutes before dancers joined for the final run-through.
The production was shot out of order, capturing full musical numbers and scene-to-scene transitions separately to ensure a polished final product.
“Wicked fans arrived dressed for the occasion and enjoyed a uniquely interactive experience unmatched by any typical taping,” shared a production insider.
While many highlights made it to the screen, some of the most charming off-camera moments were saved for attendees alone.
Author’s summary: The taping of “Wicked: One Wonderful Night” offered a rare, interactive behind-the-scenes experience, blending audience participation and dynamic filming techniques to create a magical event.
