Russia blames Kyiv, Europe for stalled peace process

At a press briefing in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the current pause in resolving the Ukrainian conflict is caused by Kyiv’s reluctance to pursue a political and diplomatic solution. He also accused European nations of encouraging Ukraine to continue fighting.

“The main thing that is currently slowing down the settlement process is the pause that has arisen due to the unwillingness of the Ukrainian side to follow the path of a political and diplomatic settlement, and due to the provocation of the Kyiv regime by the Europeans to continue further hostilities,”

Peskov added that mutual trust between Russia and Ukraine is completely absent.

“Of course, we cannot talk about any kind of mutual trust now. This is not a deficit of trust, but its absence,”

He refused to comment on President Donald Trump’s recent statement that he had resolved eight armed conflicts since the beginning of the year and intended to include the Ukrainian issue among those successes, noting that Washington had achieved “great progress.”

Peskov mentioned that a potential meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump will occur only when it becomes mutually necessary and after detailed groundwork.

Author’s summary

Peskov attributed the stalled Ukrainian peace talks to Kyiv’s inaction and European provocation, while confirming a complete lack of trust between Moscow and Kyiv.
