Lucy Liu Debuts Her Shortest Haircut in Years

Lucy Liu has entered her lob era with a fresh, shorter hairstyle for her leading role in the drama Rosemead. The actress reveals a chic, side-parted cut that falls just above her collarbone in the film's trailer.

Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The film centers on Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou), exploring their challenges after Joe’s schizophrenia diagnosis.

The story is adapted from Frank Shyong's 2017 Los Angeles Times article titled "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."

A New Direction for Liu

This role represents a significant shift from Liu’s usual light-hearted and action-packed roles seen in Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.

“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”

At the Tribeca premiere, Liu also discussed her passion for this project and others like it during an interview with Parade.

Summary

Lucy Liu embraces a new, shorter hairstyle and a dramatically different role in Rosemead, marking a bold turn in her acting career.
