Sheldon Adelson, a billionaire casino mogul and significant donor to the Republican Party, has died at 87 after a long illness.
Adelson was born on August 4, 1933, in Boston, to a family of Ukrainian Jewish and Lithuanian Jewish ancestry on his father's side, and his mother was an immigrant from England.
He began his business career at 12, selling newspapers in Boston, and later became a millionaire at a young age, trying his! hand at various businesses.
At the time of his death, Adelson owned the largest newspaper in Nevada, the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
His wife, Miriam, and the Las Vegas Sands Corp. confirmed his passing.
