Ken Jennings, host of the popular game show Jeopardy!, addressed controversy stemming from a recent clue that confused both contestants and viewers. The clue read, “A.I. generated the TikTok image of this pig/human eventually killed by Tim Cheese.” All three contestants appeared baffled, and Jennings himself admitted, “I didn’t understand any of that.” The correct answer was “Who is John Pork?”
The backlash was not about the difficulty of the question but the description of the meme involved. Fans expressed frustration over labeling John Pork as AI-generated, with comments on the official “Jeopardy!” Instagram account like:
“John Pork isn’t ai dont slander him!”
“JOHN PORK IS NOT AI.”
“Upset I immediately knew the answer even with the question phrased incorrectly, he was NOT AI!”
In a TikTok video posted on Saturday, November 2, Jennings spoke about the incident:
“When we played a clue recently on ‘Jeopardy!’ about John Pork, I remarked that I didn’t understand a word of it. Well, I’ve had the chance to learn quite a bit since that clue aired about the late Mr. Pork, including the fact that some viewers took exception with our description of him as AI-generated. Now, even though AI is used heavily in many of his TikToks, it’s possible that wasn’t the best wording to refer to his original appearances.”
Jennings clarified the misunderstanding and acknowledged that while AI has been involved in some TikToks featuring John Pork, referring to the original meme as AI-generated was misleading.
Ken Jennings apologized for inaccurately describing the John Pork meme as AI-generated, recognizing fans’ concerns and clarifying the wording was not ideal.
