"Past Lives" by Jay Som ft. Hayley Williams - Northern Transmissions
Jay Som is the music project of Melina Duterte, a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. She will release her new album Belong on November 7. Prior to the album's launch, Jay Som debuted "Past Lives," featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore.
The two artists met in Nashville to collaborate on a song, working alongside Steph Marziano. Williams’ gentle harmonies on the sweeping "Past Lives" enhance the track's melancholic feeling of drifting through emotional lows, capturing moments of energy that quickly dissipate.
The song delivers intense emotional impact, with a slowed midsection that feels like a personal struggle.
“It’s a dream come true to have Hayley sing on my first feature on an album before the recording of ‘Float,’ I still can’t believe it happened,” Duterte said of the collaboration.
“She’s one of the kindest artists out there and she graciously accepts and uplifts the people around her. We’re all so lucky to witness her talent and live on the same timeline as her.”
