Indiana Pacers forward Pascal Siakam remains optimistic despite an overwhelming number of injuries affecting the team.
“It’s almost laughable,” Siakam said, via Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star. “As bad as it’s getting, I know there’s going to be another side of it.”
The Pacers’ lineup is makeshift right now. Aaron Nesmith is averaging five more attempts per game than ever, while Jarace Walker has increased his shots from 4.8 as a rookie to 12.6 this season. Coach Rick Carlisle acknowledges the difficult situation.
“We have a lot of guys playing unusual positions,” Carlisle said. “But the spirit is good.”
Currently at 1–6, the Pacers are fighting to stay afloat. Last year, they began 11–15 but still pushed to Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Russell Westbrook made a fiery return to Denver, nearly willing his team to victory with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists in a 130–124 loss.
“They didn’t want me back,” Westbrook said.
After signing a minimum deal with the Nuggets last summer and playing in 75 regular-season games, Westbrook revealed that when his player option came due, the team made it clear they preferred to move on.
The Pacers fight through adversity and injuries, while Russell Westbrook confronts Denver’s rejection with a strong on-court performance.
