Jenn Lyon, Taran Killam, and Kristin Chenoweth lead the new NBC mockumentary comedy Stumble. Fans who remember the cheeky opening cheer from the 2000 cult classic film Bring It On (“I’m sexy, I’m cute! I’m everything you’re not…”) will likely enjoy this humor-filled series.
Stumble offers a quirky look at the competitive world of college cheerleading, highlighting the intense physical and emotional challenges involved. The show follows cheer coach Courteney Potter, played by Jenn Lyon (Claws), who is fired from her job at Sammy Davis Sr. Junior College in Wichita Flats, Texas, after a viral video of a victory party featuring alcohol and a playful “Best Booty” award.
Courteney quickly recovers and accepts a coaching role at a junior college in the fictional town of Heådltston, Oklahoma. The catch: the college lacks a cheer team and no one can pronounce the town’s name, which is best known for its candy-button factory.
Only the first two episodes were available for review, but the series features Jeff Hiller, an Emmy winner for Somebody Somewhere, as a guest star playing factory owner Augustus.
“I’m sexy, I’m cute! I’m everything you’re not…”
Undaunted, Courteney begins searching far and wide—mostly low—for the next generation of cheer champions.
Stumble combines deadpan humor and spirited performances to freshen the portrayal of competitive cheerleading in a charming mockumentary style.
