After the original “The Ninth Jedi” short made a lasting impact, the announcement of a full series in 2026 left me still recovering. To hold us over, Production IG returns with Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3 and director Naoyoshi Shiotani’s “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” an engaging follow-up that expands the short’s world and hints at what the series might become.
I enjoyed “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” though it felt more like a bridge between the standalone short and the upcoming limited series Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi. It might have worked better as an opening episode for the series itself, as it diverges somewhat from the usual Visions style.
Earlier, “The Duel: Payback” gave us a self-contained sequel experience, and a later episode will conclude the Vol. 3 story arc.
"After the original “The Ninth Jedi” short left such an indelible impression, I still haven’t quite recovered from the announcement it will have a full series in 2026."
"To my last point, don’t get me wrong, I really did like ‘The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,’ but given how it’s more a halfway point to get us from a self-contained short to what might come in the limited series… I’d rather this had been an opening episode for the series itself."
Summary: “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” enriches the original short’s universe and teases the upcoming limited series, though it feels more like a transitional episode than a standalone story.
