Canucks: Kevin Lankinen gets net against Avalanche, Thatcher Demko possible for Jets

Canucks Goaltender Update

Kevin Lankinen will start again tonight against the Colorado Avalanche, marking back-to-back starts at Rogers Arena. Thatcher Demko skated Sunday morning and remains a possibility to play against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. Jiri Patera, recently recalled, will serve as backup for tonight's game.

Lankinen's Recent Performances

Last season, Lankinen made consecutive starts with a 23-save effort during a 4-2 home loss to the Montreal Canadiens on March 11. He followed that with a 20-save performance in Calgary, helping the Canucks secure a 4-3 victory. Tonight, he faces a formidable Avalanche offense led by Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas, who together have scored 21 goals and amassed 42 points.

Avalanche Team Form

The Avalanche are currently 9-1-5 and come into this game fresh from a dominant 9-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

Demko's Status and Team Schedule

To manage Demko’s stamina ahead of a demanding schedule, the Canucks' head coach Adam Foote hinted Demko might be ready for action against the Jets on Tuesday after resting Sunday.

“Thatcher felt good, he had a good day,” Foote said. “For me, it looks like he will (play) Tuesday, and I’ll deal with it later when you (media) guys get mad at me if he doesn’t.”

Lankinen wasn’t certain after his strong 29-save game Saturday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets that he would be starting again tonight.

Upcoming Schedule Challenges

“Thatcher is being rested and prepared for what’s ahead as the team faces a gruelling and condensed schedule,” said Head Coach Adam Foote.

Summary: Kevin Lankinen gets consecutive starts against a strong Avalanche offense while Thatcher Demko is being rested for a tough upcoming stretch, with possible play against the Jets on Tuesday.
