ICYMI: On MSNBC: Rosen Slams Donald Trump for Refusing to Protect Health Care, Reopen the Government - Jacky Rosen

Rosen Criticizes President Trump on Health Care and Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Jacky Rosen appeared on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” with Nicolle Wallace to criticize President Donald Trump for failing to protect Americans’ access to affordable health care and for allowing the ongoing government shutdown to continue.

During the interview, Senator Rosen emphasized the urgent need to maintain the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits, which help families afford coverage. According to the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation, health care premiums could more than double for many working families if these credits are not renewed this year. In Nevada alone, nearly 95,000 residents benefit directly from these subsidies.

Senator Rosen: “Donald Trump is in charge of the White House. He’s actually Speaker of the House these days, as he alleges himself, and he’s pretty much in control of the Senate. He could stop this shutdown right now by calling a group of Democrats and Republicans together to work on preserving the accessibility and affordability of health care for tens of millions of Americans who are about to fall off a cliff at the end of this year. Whether you get your health care on the exchanges or through your employer, everybody’s healthcare is going up.”

Rosen argued that the President has the authority to bring both parties together to ensure affordable health care and reopen the government, rather than letting families face severe cost increases.
