The Belleville Senators failed to register a goal in their first game of the weekend series, losing 3-0 to the Utica Comets.
Both teams had several scoring opportunities, but Utica opened the scoring. On a power play, Seamus Casey and Xavier Parent executed a quick passing sequence that set up Matyas Melovsky to give the Comets a 1-0 lead. Belleville was outshot 15-5 during the period while successfully killing three penalties.
Utica extended their lead early in the second. Calen Addison scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Jonathan Gruden and Mikael Diotte’s sharp puck movement. Later in the period, former Senator Angus Crookshank netted his fourth goal, with assists from Ethan Edwards and Ryan Schmelzer, making it 3-0.
Belleville generated a few chances in the final frame but could not convert, sealing the 3-0 victory for Utica.
Belleville returns home to Adirondack Bank Center next Friday for the next match of this 10-game series, beginning a three-game New York State road trip.
