The Clarksburg I-270 boys junior basketball team experienced a big surprise when Paige Bueckers, WNBA Rookie of the Year and former UConn star, stepped in to coach on Wednesday evening.
“When Bob Bueckers calls out sick and his daughter Paige comes to cover for the Clarksburg I-270 boys junior team.” – Brandon Childers, Area Director for Clarksburg I-270
Bob Bueckers, an assistant coach for the team, was unavailable due to illness and arranged for his daughter Paige to take over. Paige was visiting the area to watch UConn’s game in Annapolis.
Paige’s younger brother, Drew, plays on the team, making this coaching opportunity especially meaningful for the Bueckers family. They have lived in Clarksburg for about five years and have been active in the local basketball scene.
For the Clarksburg players, having Paige Bueckers lead their drills was an unforgettable experience.
“Having one of basketball’s biggest names leading drills was a dream come true.”
Summary: Paige Bueckers, WNBA Rookie of the Year, temporarily coached the Clarksburg I-270 boys junior team, creating a special moment for her family and local players.
