Anduril's YFQ-44A CCA makes first flight

Anduril's YFQ-44A CCA Completes First Flight

Anduril announced on 31 October 2025 that its YFQ-44A collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) has completed its first flight, marking the start of the flight-testing phase.

Development and Milestone

The milestone came 556 days after development began, according to Jason Levin, senior vice-president of engineering for Air Dominance & Strike at Anduril.

An Anduril spokesperson explained the rapid progress was due to “an intense focus” on schedule, strong collaboration with the customer, including access to Anduril’s computer-aided design (CAD) materials, and a straightforward vehicle design.

Flight Details

The flight was semi-autonomous, meaning no human pilot was directly controlling the aircraft. The operator launched the flight with the press of a button and supervised its progress.

“The aircraft executed the flightpath and landed on its own,” said the spokesperson.

Levin clarified that the YFQ-44A is not designed for remote piloting, stating:

“All of our taxi and flight tests have been and will continue to be semi-autonomous.”

Key Points

Author's summary: Anduril’s YFQ-44A achieved its first semi-autonomous flight swiftly after development, demonstrating advanced collaborative design and autonomous capabilities under operator supervision.
