Wirral will observe a moment of silence this Remembrance Sunday as residents gather to pay tribute to the fallen during services held across the borough on Sunday, 9 November.
The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, will lead the Civic Service starting at 10:55 am at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. The two-minute silence will begin promptly at 11:00 am, followed by a traditional Service of Remembrance led by Reverend Paul Bentley, Vicar of Birkenhead Priory Parish and Rural Dean of Birkenhead.
The Mayor will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph representing the people of Wirral. Deputy Lieutenant Sue Higginson OBE DL will lay a wreath on behalf of His Majesty The King. They will be joined by representatives from Wirral Council, the armed forces, various organizations, and relatives of servicemen lost in recent conflicts.
At the conclusion of the service, the Mayor and Deputy Lieutenant will take the salute during a march past led by the 107 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers. After the parade departs from Hamilton Square, the public will have the opportunity to lay their own tributes on the Cenotaph.
