Kiran Patel, Senior Director, Commercial, and Deputy Head of China at the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), participated in a roundtable discussion at the China International Import Expo (CIIE).
"British companies remain committed to the Chinese market. In our last member survey, 67% of respondents were optimistic about their business’ prospects in China over the next 5-10 years - despite current economic challenges and a more complex geopolitical environment."
Recent data from China’s Ministry of Commerce highlights this sustained confidence. Between the first and third quarters of 2025, UK investment in China grew by 21.1% year-on-year, ranking as the third fastest growth among all investing countries for this period.
"The last 15 months of reengagement between the British and Chinese governments has set the bilateral relationship back on a constructive trajectory. This positive momentum is helping to spur an increase in UK-China business activity with investment expanding in the first three quarters of 2025 and we hope to see this continue – including among Chinese investors going to the UK."
Author's summary: UK-China business ties strengthen as optimistic British companies boost investment, supported by improved government relations and growing bilateral economic activity in 2025.
