As the My Kitchen Rules competition nears its grand finale, judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge admitted they were taken aback by the semi-final lineup. The cooking contest has reached an intense stage, with teams Justin and Will, Lol and Lil, Maria and Bailey, and Danielle and Marko competing for a spot in next week's grand final.
Both judges expressed surprise at some unexpected rises in performance during this season’s semi-finals. Feildel praised one particular team for their tenacity and spirit despite the odds.
“Lol and Lil came from nowhere but what we loved about them was that they’re young, feisty and just didn’t give up,” said Manu Feildel. “Even though they thought every single competition was their last day, they just kept on giving us a little bit more.”
Colin Fassnidge echoed this sentiment, highlighting the duo’s dedication and willingness to learn throughout the competition.
“MKR is a bit like, yeah, you can cook, but you have to put the work in as well,” said Colin. “You have to listen to everything we say and put it into action. They basically went home, did their homework, practiced, and that’s how they got to where they are.”
Despite their enthusiasm, both judges were surprised that Michael, known as the “Meat Master,” and his fiancée Rielli didn’t advance further in the competition.
“The Meat Master talked a great game,” Colin reflected, suggesting high expectations that ultimately went unfulfilled.
Feildel and Fassnidge revealed they were astonished by the resilience of some underdog teams and equally surprised by the early exit of strong competitors during the MKR semi-finals.
