Walter Gretzky grew tired of waiting in the cold while his three-year-old son, Wayne Gretzky, skated at a nearby park. To solve this, Wally's Coliseum was created. This edition of Shinny or Nothing shares the story of Wayne Gretzky's childhood on an outdoor rink.
Walter realized Wayne couldn’t be pulled away from the neighborhood outdoor ice, and he was done enduring freezing temperatures in the car. The following winter, Wally's Coliseum was built for the future Edmonton Oilers and Stanley Cup champion.
