In October 2026, Armenia will host the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This milestone event will place Armenia at the centre of global biodiversity diplomacy and underscore its role as a Caucasus biodiversity hotspot.
Hosting COP17 represents both an opportunity and a responsibility. It requires strong coordination across government, active engagement of civil society and academia, and meaningful participation of youth, local communities, and the private sector.
Within this context, the EU Green Weeks Armenia event will contribute to reinforcing COP17. The event is co-led by the EU Delegation to Armenia, in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Ministry of Environment (MoEnv), and other national and international partners.
The event, “Mainstreaming Biodiversity in Armenia”, will demonstrate how biodiversity underpins Armenia’s sustainable development by linking nature, health, food systems, and economic well-being. It will also emphasize the whole-of-government and whole-of-society approaches needed to ensure biodiversity action is integrated into national policy and practice, a core message for COP17.
