Intricate flavors and blended traditions mark the diversity and vibrancy of southeast Asian fare. One of NyoNyo Lin's cherished childhood memories is eating fish soup with her grandmother back in Burma, specifically mohinga, a famous dish in Burmese cuisine.
Mohinga is packed with slippery rice noodles that absorb the dense broth, becoming a thick ball of comforting mush. It also includes shards of frittery yellow beans for a savory crunch and a hard-boiled egg that breaks into chunks, making the soup even richer.
It's a meal in and of itself.
NyoNyo Lin came to Milwaukee from Myanmar in 2005, five years after her mother, Ni Ni, via a refugee camp in Thailand. Their dream since settling has been to open a restaurant featuring recipes from NyoNyo's grandmother, who ran a restaurant in Burma.
