Widespread Flooding in Nassau After Heavy Rain

Roads in New Providence turned into rivers over the weekend due to heavy rain, causing widespread flooding that disrupted daily life and left several communities underwater.

Housing Minister Keith Bell stated that he expects more residents will need government assistance to rebuild, just weeks after officials pledged to help those affected by Tropical Storm Imelda.

“We have flooding in every area of New Providence after that tremendous amount of rainfall we had,”

Minister Bell added, mentioning severe flooding in areas such as Bel Air Estates, Carmichael Road, Tonique Williams-Darling Highway, and West Bay Street.

Videos on social media showed vehicles struggling and water surging through neighborhoods as drains overflowed and major roads became impassable.

The Ministry of Works and Family Island Affairs will deploy drainage pumps and pump trucks as soon as weather conditions permit.

Author's summary: Nassau experiences severe flooding after heavy rain.
