Who is President Dallin H. Oaks? Learn about his life, faith and ministry

President Dallin H. Oaks: A Life of Faith and Ministry

President Dallin H. Oaks has served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for over 40 years. His life took a significant turn when he received a call to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while working at a Chicago law firm and raising a young family.

As his stake president asked him to serve a stake mission and as a counselor in the stake mission presidency, requiring 40 hours of monthly proselyting, Oaks faced a challenge to his faith. According to his biography, "In the Hands of the Lord," by Richard E. Turley, Oaks recalled:

"I could not see how I could accept this calling and still keep up with my law practice,"
"Yet I could not say no to a calling that I knew to be from the Lord. Gathering all my faith, I accepted the call."

Within weeks, he recognized the blessings that come from serving the Lord, describing them as "unusual — even miraculous." Author: President Oaks' biography highlights his devotion.
