Aren Pearson, 41, has been found guilty of murdering his partner, Claire Leveque, 24, in a hot tub in Shetland.
According to the indictment, Pearson repeatedly struck Ms Leveque on the head, neck, and body with knives or similar instruments, and inflicted blunt force trauma to her head, neck, and body.
Ms Leveque, a Canadian national, was found in a hot tub with serious injuries and died a short time later.
Pearson's actions were described as "cruel and selfish" and the assault as "truly horrifying".
After the incident, Pearson left the house, drove to the nearby Melby Pier, and deliberately drove his car into the sea before returning to the house, where he was arrested.
