Bob Ross paintings to hit auction block as fundraiser for APT’s Create

Bob Ross Paintings to be Auctioned

American Public Television is set to receive a boost from the sale of Bob Ross paintings. Thirty original paintings by Bob Ross will be auctioned off over the next three years to help offset station licensing fees.

The paintings, which include many pieces from his series The Joy of Painting, will be sold by Bonhams. This decision was made after two privately held Ross paintings were sold for around $100,000 each in August.

My head started ticking away, like, ‘Well, this many paintings would equal this much, and this many paintings would equal this much,’”

said Joan Kowalski, president of Bob Ross Inc., who conceived the idea for the sale after being surprised by the amount the Bonhams pieces went for. The proceeds from the auction will help alleviate licensing fees stations pay for APT’s Create multicast channel.
