Chicago Catholics Protect Migrants' Dignity and Rights
Chicago Catholics are working to protect the dignity and religious rights of migrants amidst ongoing immigration enforcement operations and protests.
"Keeping the country safe and being mindful of human dignity are not mutually exclusive. In fact, one cannot exist without the other."
Cardinal Cupich of Chicago condemned the "unnecessarily aggressive tactics" of federal agents, stating that they have overreached and aim to terrorize and cause chaos rather than fulfill their law enforcement duties.
He emphasized that law enforcement should not be put in this position, and that the rights to worship and receive sacraments should be protected.
