Pro-Hamas Messages Disrupt Airports in Kelowna and Victoria
On Tuesday, October 14, flights were delayed at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) due to a cyber security incident.
The public address systems and screens were hacked, displaying pro-Hamas messages, including "Free Palestine" and cursing the U.S.
The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging and restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system.
- The incident occurred between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- The messaging was visible and audible throughout the airports for about two minutes.
- The City of Kelowna stated that the incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
